Pilot refreshing skills during a flight review with a flight instructor

Flight Review

A Flight Review is a required periodic proficiency check that allows pilots to refresh their knowledge, sharpen their flying skills, and confirm they are comfortable exercising the privileges of their pilot certificate. Under 14 CFR §61.56, every pilot must complete a Flight Review within the preceding 24 calendar months before acting as pilot in command.

Rather than simply checking a box every two years, our Flight Reviews are tailored to each pilot's experience, aircraft, and the type of flying they actually do. Whether a pilot has been away from the cockpit for months or simply wants to polish their technique, we focus the review on the skills that matter most to their safety and confidence.

What You'll Review

Aircraft Operations

A review of your aircraft's systems, limitations, normal procedures, and emergency operations to reinforce safe operating practices.

Flight Maneuvers

Practice with the maneuvers and flight operations required to safely exercise the privileges of your pilot certificate.

Regulations

Review the regulations, operating requirements, and recent changes that apply to your normal flying.

Decision-Making

Discuss aeronautical decision-making, risk management, and the situations you are most likely to encounter in your normal flying.

FAA Requirements (14 CFR §61.56)

What to Expect

01

Discuss Your Flying

The review begins with a discussion of your recent flying experience, the aircraft you operate, and any goals you have for the session, so we can focus the training where it will be most useful.

02

Ground Review

We review the knowledge areas that apply to your flying, including regulations, aircraft systems, weather, performance, and aeronautical decision-making.

03

Flight Review

You return to the airplane to practice the maneuvers, procedures, and operations appropriate to your certificate and aircraft.

04

Personalized Training

If any areas require additional practice, we spend the time necessary to build your confidence and proficiency rather than simply moving through a checklist.

05

Review Complete

Once the required proficiency is demonstrated, the Flight Review is logged as complete and you may continue exercising the privileges of your pilot certificate.
